Week 6 Recap: HANDSHAKE HANDSHAKE HANDSHAKE
When two teams with a combined two losses play, the story should actually involve the game and maybe the players that took part. But this Sunday everything was overshadowed by a :20 span after the final whistle.
The San Francisco 49ers just pulled off a 25-19 win, and knocked the Detroit Lions from the ranks of the unbeaten. Niners coach Jim Harbaugh could have been confused for a player postgame, as he was jumping around chest bumping guys after his teams big win. Schwartz took exception to a back slap and something that was said, and proceeded to chase Harbaugh down the field yelling and looking to go to blows. It was all quite comical, and thankfully no punches were thrown.
When it came to the actual game, Detroit could not stop the run and the Niners took advantage of that. Frank Gore average 9.4 yards a carry on the game, which shows how dominate the run game was. San Francisco is a quiet 5-1, and that loss was an overtime loss to Dallas. Jim Harbaugh has these guys playing hard for him, and he continues to prove he can win at every level. The handshake was the story, and if these team meet again in January we should probably focus on the better angle: Two down franchises rising from the ashes.
Here are the other top stories from the Week 6 action:
- If the Giants had an MVP from Sunday, it might be Drayton Florence. The Bills gave the Giants a great battle in Sundays match up, but a late flag pushed the Giants into scoring position and gave NY the 27-24 victory. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a solid outing, but his interception in the red zone gave the Giants the ball late, which led to the game winning FG. The Bills head into their bye week a surprising 4-2, and will look to bounce back at home against the Redskins. The Giants also head into the bye week at 4-2, and will face some AFC East opponents out of the bye.
- Apparently the best way to beat the Saints in to injury their coach, good to know. The Buccaneers have now beat the Falcons and Saints this year, and in the NFC South these head to head games will be the difference. New Orleans coach Sean Peyton had his knee destroyed when jimmy Graham was shoved into him, and to his credit toughed it out the rest of the first half. The Tampa defense did a great job, and did enough to hold onto the 26-20 win. The Buccaneers welcome the Bears on Sunday, then get the much needed bye week to rest up from injuries.
- Don’t look now, but the rookie Bengals are 4-2. Cincy held off the Colts for the 27-17 victory, and the Bengals look to have a bright future at some key postions. Goodbye Ochocinco and Palmer, hello Andy Daulton and AJ Green. I must brag here, and mention how I drafted AJ Green in two of my leagues. With the two draft picks they got for Carson Palmer, the Bengals have the chance to compete in the AFC North for years to come.
Whats your Fantasy?
In the battle I was looking forward to all season, Jimmy Johnson Eat World (4-1) took on an undefeated Best Coast Offense (5-0) which is led by my good friend Nate. Before the 10am games were complete, my team jumped out to a 60+ point lead and did not look back. I got double digit scoring from all but 2 players, and my WR core of AJ Green, Stevie Johnson and Mike Williams continued to give me reason to celebrate. I am now tied atop the league with a 5-1 record, and with the always bye weeks coming up anything can happen.
Final Thought
The Raiders lost Jason Campbell to a broken collarbone in Sundays victory over the Browns, and after the injury they did not hesitate to throw a kings ransom at the Bengals for Carson Palmer. Mike Brown, the owner of the Bengals, had said repeatedly he would not budge on a trade at any point. Well the Raiders found the right number, and reaction throughout the country has been all over the place.
My thought on the trade is this: Carson Palmer was an elite QB, but never fully regained that status after the knee injury in the playoffs a few years back. But Carson is a good QB, and with the defense and run game they have in Oakland he is not expected to carry the team. I think this will be a good fit for the Raiders, and as I Chargers fan I am definitely concerned. The Raiders believe they can win now, and if Carson can manage the game and the make the throws when he needs to this team has to be considered a threat in the AFC. I have never been to a Chargers/Raiders game, but with this trade going down I might have to head down to SD for the Thursday Night Football game. The AFC West just got mighty interesting, and it should be an interesting ride for the rest of the season!
Next week I will release my first Top 5 of the year, which I know you all have been waiting for. Won’t be heading to any games this week, but will be heading to a local bar to watch my Chargers get their first look at LT in a Jets uniform. It should be a great game!!
