Week 3 Recap: Tony Romo, the endless debate
It is funny how everyone treats Tony Romo. I mean one week he is a choke artist (Week1), then he is the toughest QB in the league (Week 2), and now he is a 4th quarter QB (Week 3). Ever since the missed hold in Seattle Romo has been put under a microscope each and every week.
The Cowboys squeaked out an 18-16 victory Monday night and handed the Redskins their first loss of the season. Even though Romo did not throw a TD he was praised for his performance. He was beaten up, and had to get two pain shots to get through the game. He dealt with mistakes by his center, but he made the throws when it mattered. It was a Romo like game, and he probably had Cowboy fans on a roller coaster of emotion. But when the clock struck zero, he was given the love for the time being.
For the record, I think Tony is a good quarterback but not an elite one. You never know what you are going to get with him, and that definitely will continue to haunt him until he can win a ring. The Cowboys face a tough test as they face the unbeaten Detroit Lions. The Lions talented pass rushers will be coming for Romo, but the critics will return if Tony can not come through Sunday.
Now lets take a look at the other top stories from Week 3:
- The Bills do it again, and it cost Tom Brady his hair. Ok, so he got a haircut this week and they may not be connected. But Tom Brady threw four interceptions for the second time in his career, and the Bills rallied back from an early 21-0 hole to pull off the 34-31 victory. The “Amish Rifle” Ryan Fitzpatrick lit up the Patriots defense for 369 yards in the victory, and is definitely raising some eyebrows around the league. The Bills look to move to 4-0 against the lowly Bengals, but then have to face NFC East powers the Eagles and Giants.
- Looks like the Dream Team may be facing a nightmare. The Eagles lost their second straight to the Giants 29-16 at home on Sunday, and once again Mike Vick was knocked out of the game. The injury riddled Giants improved to 2-1 on the season with the help of their defense and the pressure they put on the Eagles all day. The Eagles welcome the 49ers to town on Sunday, but they may not have their $100 millon dollar man with them as Vick will be a game time decision.
- The Vikings are a first half team, we know this for sure. For the third consecutive week, the Vikings squandered a double digit lead to fall to 0-3 on the season. The Vikings were up 20-0 on the Lions before Calvin Johnson and the Lions outscored Minnesota 26-3 in the second half and overtime. I expect to see Christian Ponder starting soon, but the Vikings need to figure out something to salvage this season. The Lions are 3-0 for the first time in ages„ and it is nice to see Detroit succeeding.
- Hey Mark Sanchez, no more GQ white pants pictures until you fix that nose! The first time Sanchez went into Oakland he was enjoying a hot dog in the 4th quarter, but this time it was much different. The Raiders punished Sanchez all game, and his 369 passing yards were not enough as the Raiders pulled off the impressive 34-24 victory. The game was sealed when Antonio Cromartie muffed a kickoff late in the 3rd quarter, the Raiders scored on the turnover and made the game 31-17. The Raiders look to continue their impressive start as they welcome the Patriots into the black hole.
What’s your Fantasy?
The train keeps on rolling for Jimmy Johnson Eat World, as I improved to 3-0 this weekend scoring a league high 151 points. So far this season Darren McFadden is my MVP, as he had another big damn racking up 37 points. With the injury struggles of Antonio Gates, I picked up Ed Dickson from the Ravens who got me double digit points. This week I go against Hines your Kids, Hines your Wife who is led by my Chargers QB Phillip Rivers. I want Phillip to do good, but for fantasy sake don’t do too good.
Final Thought
It has been a great year so far, but some teams might already be looking to the 2012 season. Injurys can wreak havoc on a team, and in the case of the Chiefs and Colts it has ruined their season. It is well documented what is going on in Indy, and with Peyton on the shelf for the season this team has struggled to win without their leader. The quarterback position is the lifeline of the Colts offense and it is missing its pulse. The Chiefs have suffered injuries to its best player on each side of the ball, but one might argue the biggest loss was the offensive coordinator. Charlie Weis left to return to the college game, and the Chiefs offense has looked dreadful this season. They have scored a league low 27 points, which is less then what 7 teams scored on Sunday alone. It is probably going to be a long year for these loyal fan bases, and all you can do is look towards the future.
________________________________________________________________________________________
I will make it 3 for 3 on Sunday, when I head back to the Q to watch my Chargers take on the Miami Dolphins. Miami is definitely down right now, and if this game gets out of hand we may get our first head coached canned this year. The Dolphins are running out of patience with Tony Sparano, and he may be on borrowed time as it is. The Chargers need to show me something after that weak victory on Sunday, and I expect to see a blowout.
